PLOT
The Redtree Tapes follows Sasha Collins, a rising lifestyle influencer, and her filmmaker boyfriend Kyle as they travel to the remote Northern California town of Redtree to investigate a decades-old legend surrounding missing gold hidden by a prospector named Samuel Brown. What begins as a fun, viral-ready treasure hunt quickly spirals into something far darker when the couple discovers abandoned campsites, cryptic journals, strange ritual totems, and a town deeply unsettled by their questions. Through their cameras, livestreams, and recovered footage, Sasha and Kyle slowly uncover a horrifying truth: Redtree’s prosperity was built on an ancient pact demanding blood in exchange for wealth.
As they dig deeper into the mystery, the line between folklore and reality collapses. The couple becomes trapped in a town ruled by fear, secrecy, and a cult-like devotion to “the land.” Their footage captures the unraveling of both their relationship and their sanity as they are hunted through the forests surrounding Devil’s Mound and the ruins of Samuel Brown’s settlement. What starts as an internet adventure transforms into a desperate fight for survival against a community willing to kill to protect its terrible secret.
Blending found-footage realism, folk horror mythology, and modern influencer culture, The Redtree Tapes is a tense descent into obsession, greed, and generational evil — where every sacrifice feeds the land, and every camera may become evidence of the next disappearance.

ACT 1
Social media influencer Sasha Collins and her filmmaker boyfriend Kyle Bennett travel to the remote Northern California town of Redtree to investigate the legend of Samuel Brown, a 19th-century prospector said to have discovered thirty pounds of gold before mysteriously losing his daughter Clara. Hoping to turn the story into viral content and uncover the rumored treasure, the couple documents their road trip, interviewing locals and exploring the town’s uneasy history. Though many residents refuse to speak about Samuel Brown or the surrounding woods, Sasha and Kyle uncover fragments of an old poem, abandoned records, and references to a place called Devil’s Mound.
As their investigation deepens, strange warnings begin to pile up. Locals speak cryptically about “the land,” hikers vanish without explanation, and the couple discovers eerie totems decorated with human teeth and gold hidden throughout the forest. Their cameras capture unsettling clues pointing toward a long-buried massacre tied to the Indian Wars and a cult-like belief that Redtree’s prosperity depends on ritual sacrifice. What initially seemed like a quirky internet treasure hunt slowly transforms into something terrifyingly real.

ACT 2
Determined to expose the truth, Sasha and Kyle push further into Redtree’s history despite mounting paranoia and fear. Through hidden codes buried in old journals and town records, they uncover the horrifying truth behind Samuel Brown’s legend: after burying his daughter Clara beneath the Blood Red Oak, Samuel returned days later to discover her bones had transformed into gold. Believing he had been chosen by the land, he forged a pact of sacrifice in exchange for prosperity, a ritual secretly maintained by Redtree ever since.
As the couple’s footage captures evidence of the town’s rituals, they become targets themselves. The Sheriff, initially presented as a threatening antagonist, is revealed to be desperately trying to scare them away before the cult can act. But even he cannot stop what Redtree has become. After witnessing the Sheriff’s ritual execution at Devil’s Mound, Sasha and Kyle attempt to flee the town, only to discover that local law enforcement, emergency services, and much of the community are tied to the cult. Isolated and hunted, their relationship begins to fracture under exhaustion, guilt, and fear as the woods around Redtree seem to close in on them.

ACT 3
With escape no longer possible, Sasha and Kyle make one final attempt to survive and expose Redtree to the outside world. Their cameras capture increasingly desperate footage as they hide in abandoned cabins, evade cult members through the forest, and try to send out warnings before communication is cut off completely. Kyle spirals between terror and rage while Sasha refuses to stop documenting the truth, convinced that if their footage survives, someone will eventually uncover what happened in Redtree.
Eventually, Sasha is captured and brought before the cult at the altar beneath the remains of the Blood Red Oak. Forced to watch helplessly from hiding, Kyle witnesses the horrifying culmination of Redtree’s ancient pact as Sasha is sacrificed in a ritual meant to preserve the town’s prosperity. Broken by grief and consumed by fury, Kyle prepares for one final confrontation with the cult and the land itself. The recovered footage ends abruptly, leaving only fragments of the truth behind — a chilling record of two people who came searching for buried gold and instead uncovered a living nightmare rooted deep beneath Redtree’s soil.
