CHARACTERS
Found footage horror lives or dies by the audience’s belief that the people on screen are real. In The Redtree Tapes, the horror is not driven by spectacle alone, but by the emotional authenticity of Sasha and Kyle as their relationship unravels under fear, guilt, and desperation. Strong characters ground the format, transforming shaky cameras and improvised moments into something intimate and believable. The audience has to care about who is holding the camera before they fear what the camera captures.

SASHA COLLINS
A charismatic fitness and lifestyle influencer with a sharp instinct for storytelling, Sasha sees the Redtree investigation as an opportunity to evolve beyond shallow content creation and build something meaningful. Intelligent, ambitious, and relentlessly curious, she approaches the mystery with optimism and confidence, even as the danger around her escalates. Beneath her polished online persona is someone deeply driven by a fear of being overlooked or ordinary. As the series progresses, Sasha transforms from a content creator chasing a viral story into a determined survivor willing to risk everything to expose the truth.
KYLE BENNETT
Kyle is Sasha’s boyfriend, cameraman, editor, and emotional anchor. More skeptical and grounded than Sasha, he initially views the Redtree trip as another adventure for their channel, but quickly becomes uneasy as the town’s hostility and strange history begin to surface. Protective, sarcastic, and emotionally intuitive, Kyle constantly struggles between supporting Sasha’s ambition and recognizing the growing danger surrounding them. Over the course of the series, his humor and cynicism give way to paranoia, grief, and ultimately fury as Redtree slowly strips away any illusion of safety or control.
WILLOW
A mysterious longtime resident of Redtree who has lived near the woods since the spiritualist movements of the 1970s, Willow is warm, eccentric, and impossible to fully read. Speaking in cryptic observations about “the land” and the balance between greed and sacrifice, she acts as both guide and warning to Sasha and Kyle. Willow embodies the strange duality of Redtree itself, simultaneously comforting and deeply unsettling. Whether she is trying to help the couple survive or subtly manipulate them toward their fate remains unclear for much of the series.
EARL HARPER
The quiet but commanding leader of Redtree’s secretive cult, Earl is the modern keeper of the town’s ancient pact. Calm, articulate, and disturbingly sincere, he sees the sacrifices demanded by the land not as murder, but as necessary stewardship that protects the town and its people. Earl believes Redtree’s prosperity depends on maintaining the balance first established by Samuel Brown generations ago. Unlike a traditional horror villain driven by chaos, Earl views himself as a protector preserving a sacred tradition, making his quiet conviction all the more terrifying.
SHERIFF DAN MERCER
The longtime Sheriff of Redtree, Dan Mercer initially appears to be a hostile small-town authority figure determined to drive Sasha and Kyle out of town. Gruff, evasive, and constantly warning them to stop filming and leave the woods alone, he comes across as someone protecting Redtree’s secrets through intimidation. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Mercer is one of the few people genuinely trying to prevent outsiders from suffering the town’s curse.
